The application site extends to 2.46 acres (0.99 hectares) in size and sits along Foots Cray High Street. The site comprises a trading Lidl foodstore and a warehouse building to the rear formerly occupied by a small number of businesses including packaging firm and is bound by Foots Cray High Street to the south, open green space to the north, Rectory Lane and a school to the west and residential and commercial properties to the east.
The site is located in the heart of Foots Cray centre which is defined in the Bexley Local Plan as a Neighbourhood Centre. The front part of the site only sits within Foots Cray Conservation Area.
As a key site for the centre, the site is highly accessible in terms of its location, being situated along the Foots Cray High Street, approximately 0.5 miles from the A20, 4.7 miles to the M25 and serval bus services immediately adjacent to the site and locally.
Lidl’s project team will ensure that the development is treated sensitively, relating sympathetically to the site and its surroundings whilst also addressing transportation, design and sustainability matters.
